Reconhecida pela Organização Mundial
de Saúde Animal como Zona Livre de Fe-
bre Aftosa, com vacinação, há 15 anos, o que
permite acessibilidade a importantes merca-
dos internos e externos, a Bahia possui o sé-
timo maior rebanho bovino do Brasil, e fi-
gura entre os estados autorizados a fornecer
carne
in natura
para mais de 70 indústrias
habilitadas a exportarem o produto enlata-
do para a União Europeia. Com produção
destacada, as regiões Extremo Sul, Sudoes-
te e Oeste do Estado apresentam grande po-
tencial para o desenvolvimento do agrone-
gócio, a partir da instalação de indústrias.
A ovinocaprinocultura, devido à rusti-
cidade e à fácil adaptação às condições do
meio ambiente, é alternativa econômica im-
portante para o semiárido, que ocupa mais
de 60% do território baiano. A Bahia é o Es-
tado nordestino com o maior rebanho de ca-
prinos, com cerca de 4,1 milhões de cabeças.
Visando organizar e profissionalizar a ca-
prinocultura de leite, o governo do Estado,
através da Secretaria de Agricultura, Pecu-
ária, Irrigação, Pesca e Aquicultura, lançou
em 2016 o programa "Cabra Produtiva,
Rota do Leite", que já apresenta resultados,
com a fabricação dos primeiros queijos fi-
nos, a partir do leite de cabra, tendo em sua
composição vinhos e cachaças produzidos
na região do Vale do São Francisco.
A suinocultura baiana também ganhou
novo fôlego em 2016 com a conquista do
status
de Área Livre de Peste Suína Clás-
sica (PSC), concedido pela Organização
Mundial de Saúde Animal. O reconheci-
mento garante a segurança para que novos
empreendimentos na área de suinocultu-
ra possam se instalar no Estado, que reú-
ne condições altamente favoráveis, como
a implantação de agroindústrias em áreas
com vocação natural para a produção de
grãos, voltados à alimentação dos animais,
a exemplo da região Oeste, o que garante
um grande diferencial competitivo.

disease free zone, with vaccination, fif-
teen years ago, a status that grants ac-
cess to important markets at home and
abroad, Bahia possesses the seventh big-
gest bovine herd in Brazil, and is one of
the states qualified to supply fresh meat
to upwards of 70 industries authorized
to export canned meat to the European
Union. With a huge production, the Far
South, Southeast and West regions in the
State demonstrate a big potential for the
development of agribusiness, based on
the industries in operation.
Sheep and goat farming, due to their rus-
ticity and adaptation to the conditions of
the environment, is a relevant alternative
for the Semiarid, which occupies 60% of the
territory in Bahia. Bahia is the Northeastern
State with the biggest goat herd, with about
4.1 million head. With an eye towards or-
ganizing professionally the dairy goat sec-
tor, the State Government, through the Sec-
retariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Irrigation,
Fishery and Aquaculture, launched the pro-
gram, “Productive Goat, Milk Route”, in
2016. It has already shown results, with the
manufacture of the first fine cheese from
goat milk, whose composition includes
wines and sugarcane spirits produced in
the São Francisco Valle region.
Pig farming has also picked up steam in
2016, after the conquest of the status as area
free from the Classical Swine Pest (CSP),
granted by the World Organization for Ani-
mal Health. The recognition is an assurance
for pig production enterprises to establish
operations in the State, where conditions
are highly favorable, for example, for the im-
plementation of agroindustries in areas nat-
urally suitable for the production of cereal
crops, main ingredients in animal feed, just
like what is happening in the West, a fact that
represents a real competitive edge.
