C
onsidered as the biggest and
most important exhibition of
the sector in Brazil and Latin
America, the Technical Horti-
culture Exhibition, Protected
Cultivation and Intensive Crops (Hortitec)
is coming to its 24th edition from June 21
to June 23, 2017, in the Holambra Expoflo-
ra Pavilion, located in São Paulo. The ini-
tiative is committed to bring the latest na-
tional and international novelties in terms
of technology, varieties, products and ser-
vices of the segments in question, with
special focus on olericulture.
Therewill be 420 exhibitors, 30 of them
from abroad, to show the latest innova-
tions in technology and inputs, aimed at
improving both productivity and quality,
as well as reduce costs and the consump-
tion of natural resources. “The exhibition
plays a fundamental role in multiplying
knowledge, thus contributing towards
turning the activity more and more pro-
ductive, profitable and viable in ecological
terms”, stresses Renato Opitz, agronomic
engineer and director of the event.
In parallel, there will be courses ad-
dressing themes of interest to the farmers.
It is the case of biological management of
pests and diseases and greenhouse dis-
eases, the use of renewable energy in
protected cultivations and practical ap-
proaches on liquidity in horticulture. The
program also features the launch of the
Holambra Agribusiness College, which
seeks to consolidate the city as a refer-
ence in floriculture, horticulture and seed
and seedling production technology.
The fair is supposed to attract 30
thousand visitors, say the organizers,
who also expect businesses to achieve
about R$ 100 million. Despite the pro-
longed national economic crisis, there is
hope for good results considering, for ex-
ample, information that in 2017 fruit and
vegetable sales are soaring at a rate of
4%, on average, while, according to fig-
ures released by the Brazilian Associa-
tion of Seeds and Seedlings (ABCSEM),
sales of vegetable seeds reach about R$
1 billion in the Country.
