Balance
Through the Green Is Life Project, from 1991 to 2016, Afubra distributed upwards
of 4.5million native tree seedlings to schools and environmental projects. Along with
the project, the Afubrinha was equally born. It is a mascot that makes it easier to cre-
ate awareness among children and first year students. A total of 85 thousand books,
along with 550 thousand notebooks of the Ecology Series were also handed out to
the interested parties. Activities are promoted in 600municipalities in South Brazil; of
these, 210 are now integrated with the Environmental Sensitization programs (PSA)
and Socio-Environmental Action (Pasa).
Scope
Nowadays, the activities of theGreen Is Life are conducted inpartnershipwith 146municipalities and 456 schools
in the three southern states of theCountry. Inall, there are about 123 thousand students and teachersworking jointly. “All thiswork
stems fromthepartnerships signedwithmayors,municipal secretariats of education, students, headmasters, parents andcommu-
nities, besides teams of the project at the headquarter and subsidiaries “, notes Benício AlbanoWerner, president of Afubra.
“Besides continuing evolving, the project undertook the challenge to spread environmental education in school, in line with
new demands and technologies”, says forest engineer Jorge Antônio de Farias, who participated in the creation and implementa-
tion of the initiative, as heworked for Afubra from1986 to 2011.
