A complete processing unit
Partnership between companies Super Máquinas andMarapé
provide the market with the first modulated corn processing unit
Corn is the basic food ingredient of sev-
eral supply chains, and the technologies
for processing this cereal have been keep-
ing pace with their importance to these
crops. Up to now, the wet milling or semi-
wet milling process was used, which, be-
sides turning the process more complex
and expensive, required the use of dryers
powered by fuel, and labor.
Super Máquinas, a company based in
Rio Grande do Sul, along with Marapé, a
company in São Paulo, developed the first
modulated corn processing plant, which
supplies high added-value materials. The
MCU-1000 (English acronym for modulat-
ed corn unit – 1000 kg/h) reaches the mar-
ket with the promise to provide for a com-
pact solution, automated and capable of
supplying a premium product, of high val-
ue for the modern food industry.
The entire equipment is installed inside
a container. Therefore, there is no need for
the construction of industrial barns or the
use of space in plants that are in operation,
thus facilitating any future change in the lay-
out. It is a complete processing unit: after
its arrival, the cereal is submitted to a dry-
degerming process, and then fractioned to
meet the needs of the different market seg-
ments. As the MCU-1000 processes the ce-
real without the addition of water, the hu-
midity levels do not change, with no need
for dryers, thus greatly reducing operation-
al costs and the complexity of installations.
“Many companies that manufacture
biscuits and other products derived from
corn are unable to expand their business-
es for the lack of quality raw material”,
says executive Marapé manager, Mário
Cassemiro. “Our technology allows for
the construction of new corn processing
plants, based on modern technology, in a
fast and economic manner”.
Another relevant topic is the insertion
of the micronization technology in the
project. This leads to the manufacture of
products greatly demanded by the food in-
dustries. Depending on the final destina-
tion, the micronization option could boost
the value of the product by up to 300%,
compared to a product crushed in tradi-
tional hammermills, for example. The rea-
son for such super value lies in the shape
of the final particulate, totally spherical,
providing for a bigger contact area, and
greatly increasing its degree of solubility.
“The modularization concept, along
with the Marapé dry degerminator and the
Shiling micronizing mill, turn the project
very special”, comments Super Máquinas
CEO Matheus Pereira. “Our goal, by joining
all these technologies, was to come up with
a complete unit, compact and automated,
requiring minimum space and labor, with-
out the use of dryers and providing a chance
for small and medium-scale farmers to bring
to the market high added value products.”
