The production areas and the structures
for the industrialization of dairy produce ful-
fill one of the most strategic roles in Brazilian
reality – and it is not different in other na-
tions. This food, fundamental for subsistence
and for the quality of life, requires maximum
attention from public and private organs, wi-
thin regional, state and national contexts.
When supply limitations occur from herd sa-
nitary problems or even climate disasters, the
entire society feels the consequences.
Because of this, the dairy supply chain
turns into an assurance of regional develo-
pment, where some states really stand out,
in which the vocation of their populations or
the region’s general conditions favor this ac-
tivity. The genetic enhancement of the dai-
ry breeds, especially with the vast introduc-
tion of Girolando breeds in almost the entire
Country, prompted the jump in productivi-
ty that made the dairy sector pick up steam.
And now, although Brazil is experiencing
an economic crisis, the perspectives of this
sector continue promising. Whether in the
supply of milk and an array of byproducts to
the domestic market, or for exports, all dai-
ry related businesses are on a rising trend.
In light of this expectation, countless initia-
tives are under implementation with the aim
to stabilize and expand the dairy sector, with
quality and food safety as major concerns.
The Brazilian Dairy Yearbook 2016, in
this joint edition by Editora Gazeta, whe-
reby the beef cattle sector is also featured,
provides an update on the production and
market panorama, and dimensions the
profile of the activity in the Country. May
