Plantings are being driven by the soaring market price, the good quality of the crop and consumers always in pursuit of healthy foods.
“The Brazilian population is gradually becoming aware of the benefits stemming from the consumption of sweet potatoes, and they are be-
coming almost an integral part of the meals”, observes agronomist Luis Antonio Suita de Castro, from Embrapa Temperate Climate. Sales in
the domestic market have become more attractive because this vegetable is in great demand. So much that exports of 1,829,410 kilograms
in 2015 were down 31.2% from the previous year, according to data from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex), of the Ministry of Devel-
opment, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC).
