Detected inBrazil in 2001, Asian rust, depending on the fierceness of the outbreak, could cause
damages of up to 70% in a field. In 16 years, Brazilian farmers learned how to deal with the
disease and damages have dropped. Its cost is equivalent to the costs of the fungicides for its
control, aroundUS$ 2 billion in the Brazilian fields, a year. Statistical numbers of the sector show
that if the product does not achieve an 80-percent control, it causes losses.
