A new festivemoment and a confirmation of the socioeconomic importance of
tobacco were implemented in 2017. The farm that belongs to Alcir Coutinho, 49,
was the venue for the first edition of the Tobacco Harvest Opening Ceremony, last
October, with the presence of the Governor José Ivo Sartori, besides several re-
gional, state and federal authorities. It is not by chance that the familywas chosen.
In Estância Nova, interior of Venâncio Aires, 17 hectares are devoted to the produc-
tion of the crop, in fields administratedwith the help of his wife Sílvia and children
Douglas, Débora and Daísa.
Linked to the activity during his entire life, Coutinho is determined to keep his 52
hectaresdiversified. Alongwith tobacco, flagshipof hisbusiness, he raisesbeef cattle
and grows corn, both for silage or grains. “We also have other agricultural products

Everything is carried out with dedication and
excellence, thus turning the family a reference
in the tobacco supply chain. Great care and zeal
in the conduction of the businesses earned the
family much applause on October 27, eve of the
World TobaccoGrowers’ Day.
The programalso included the renewal of the
