he 2017/18 tobacco crop in
Brazil, which came to a close
in February, was smaller than
initially expected, and the
blame goes to unfavorable
weather conditions. Of the total Brazil-
ian production, 97 percent is produced in
this region, and 98 percent of all exports
are concentrated in the States of Paraná,
Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina.
The Tobacco Growers’ Association of Bra-
zil (Afubra) indicates a 0.4 percent reduc-
tion in planted area, to 297,460 hectares,
and productivity is 2.6 percent lower, and
recedes to 2,303 kilograms per hectares.
