tempt to keep Brazilian cof-
fee fields competitive. Now,
the quality of the seedlings is
viewed as one of the primordial factors for
the farmers to achieve success in the pro-
duction of coffee. To broaden the option of
seedlings and seeds with a high productive
potential and resistance to multiple pests
and diseases, the National Program for
Strengthening Family Agriculture (Pronaf)-
Coffee Foundation, a partner institution of
Coffee Research consortium, coordinated
by Embrapa Coffee, is investing in the de-
velopment of newcultivars, whose differen-
tials are likely toboost the incomeof thecof-
fee farmers and reduce production costs.
According to analyst Lucas Tadeu Fer-
reira, assistant manager of the Technology
Transference Department at Embrapa Cof-
fee, Pro-Coffee produces seed and seed-
lings of Arabica coffee for specific regions
across Brazil. Nowadays, technologies
available to the coffee growers are as fol-
lows: Acauã, Acauã Novo, Arara, Asa Bran-
ca, Catucaí Amarelo 2SL, Catucaí Amarelo
