hough the national produc-
tion of mangoes has been
dropping since 2010, when
1,189,651 tons were pro-
duced, Brazil is still one of the
biggest producers of the fruit. Now, ac-
cording to data from the Food and Ag-
riculture Organization of the United Na-
tions (FAO), the Country ranks as seventh
biggest mango producer in the world.
In 2015, at the last consolidated survey
conducted by the Brazilian Institute of
Geography and Statistics (IBGE), 64,305
hectares were devoted to the fruit in the
national territory, reaching a harvest of
976,815 tons and average productivity of
15,190 kilograms per hectare.
According to researcher João Ricardo
Ferreira de Lima, from Embrapa Semiar-
