Brazil’s total tomato crop reached
3,686,816 tons in 2015, according to a re-
port by the IBGE Automatic Recovery Sys-
tem (Sidra). For 2016, the projection is for a
10.17% smaller crop, remaining at 3,311,956
tons. With regard to productivity, in 2015
the farmers harvested 64,817 kilograms per
hectare, from an area of 56,880 hectares. In
the new growing season, the planted area
is supposed to reach no more than 52,503
hectares, down approximately 7.77%. Now-
adays, the main tomato producing states
in Brazil are Goiás, São Paulo and Minas
Gerais, which, together devote upwards of
33.6 thousand hectares to the crop.

According to the Foreign Trade Statistics

Country exported 198,400 kilograms of to-
matoes and another 2,184,538 kilos of pre-
pared or preserved tomatoes. Together, the
shipments amounted to US$ 2,226,813.00
over the period. Currently, the leading buy-
ers of our national products are the neigh-
boring countries in Latin America: Bolivia,
Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina.
