of the total produced in the Country in 2015
(which corresponded to 17.9 million tons
andR$23.2billion,from32items,withcassa-
va not included), according to a survey con-
ducted by Embrapa. On the other hand, the
Campinas Agronomic Institute (IEA), a divi-
sion of the São Paulo State Secretariat of Ag-
riculture and Supply, brought in revenue of
R$ 4.5 billion fromthe sales of 12 olericulture
crops cultivated in the State in 2016, bringing
this edible root to the dinner table and con-
sidering the tomato for thispurposeonly.
The revenue brought by the 12 vegetables
produced inSãoPaulo represents 5.7%of the
state’stotalAgricultureProductionValue(VPA,
inthePortugueseacronym),calculatedbythe
IEA, andwas up 22%fromthe 2015 crop year.
The biggest value was derived from the most
representativevegetablecropcultivatedinthe
State, English potatoes, with a total of R$ 1.4
billion, followed by table tomatoes, with R$
1 billion, representing an increase of 39.25%
over 2015, in the first case, and a decrease of
1.77% in the second item. In the meantime,

Among the olericulture crops in São Pau-
lo surveyed by the Economic Institute of the
State, other noteworthy crops are as follows,
in decreasing order: beet, sweet potato, let-
tuce, carrot, cabbage, table cassava, read
pepper, onion, squash and pumpkin. If they
were added to the calculations of the oleri-
culture group, they would also be of note in
the general winner of national production:
cassava for the industry (ahead of the same
item for the dinner table), watermelon and
industrial tomato. In this case, where Goiás
is the leading producer, the volume destined
for thedinner table inSãoPaulo is inferior.
