T
he Brazilian Floriculture Insti-
tute (Ibraflor) commemorates
the results achieved in 2017.
Though the reflections of the
crisis are still present in the
economy, the president of the entity, Kees
Schoenmaker, stresses that the sector is vi-
brant and looks to the future with confi-
dence. The numbers justify this optimism.
The cooperatives inHolambra, inSãoPaulo,
registered a growth rate from 12% to 15%.
In general, at the level of Brazil, the prog-
ress is estimated to reach 8%, with revenue
amounting to some R$ 7.3 billion – in 2016,
it amounted to R$ 6.7 billion.
“To a certain extent, it is surprising that
during the months of crisis experienced by
the Country, the ornamental sector made
strides that can be taken as robust. Of
course, this is important for the economy,
especially where there are big concentra-
tions of farmers”, heponders. For 2018, Ibra-
flor maintains its 8 to 10 percent growth ex-
pectations, with per capita consumption
estimated at R$ 26.50.
