er of the rice processing map in
RioGrandedoSul in2015,witha
total of 775,610 tons, 12.77% of
the total processed in the State.
In a period of five years, from 2010 to 2015,
the company remained on top, according
to the Sectoral Policy Department of the Rio
GrandedoSul Rice Institute (Irga). The situa-
tion is the samewith regard to theother two

(17.51%) reach a total of 1,019,155 tons,
about sacks. With this amount of process-
ing,agronomicengineerVictorHugoKayser,
head of Irga’s Political Department, main-
tains that the State is keeping its position as
main rice processing center inBrazil.
A trend, referred to by the specialist, is the
decreaseinthenumberofcompaniesandrice
millsoverthepastyears.Theannualevolution
of processing demonstrates that there were
511 enterprises in the territory of Rio Grande
doSul in2009. In2015, thisnumber had fallen
to383(-25%).Duringthesameperiod,thevol-
ume of rice processes jumped from5,085,768
tons to 6,072,365 tons (+19.40%). The mas-
biggest brands: Josapar ranks as second
and Pirahy Alimentos as third over the peri-
od. In the sequence, the other two compa-
nies that complete the five leading ones are
Urbano Agroindustrial and SLC Alimentos.
Now,50%ofthericeinRioGrandedoSul
is processed by 12 processing units. In 2015,
the 50 biggest enterprises of the sector pro-
cessed a total of 82.49%, about 4,825,698
tons of rice processed, or 96,513,967 fif-
