Despite the economic crisis in 2016, shipments could go up 2%
FEWEREGGS
Although combining nutritional quality and affordable
price, the production of eggs in Brazil should drop 0.8% in 2016.
The volume has been estimated at 39.1 billion eggs, against
39.5 billion units produced in 2015. The smaller supply will also
reflect on consumption per capita, which is reckoned at 190
units, down 0.7% from the 191 units calculated in 2015. Accord-
ing to ABPA officials, this slight drop in consumption and pro-
duction in Brazil attests that the sector suffered the least im-
pact from the economic crisis, whilst taking advantage of the
prices at the supermarket shelves. The improved sales condi-
tions in the domestic scenario led to a reduction in egg exports.
Expectations were for the shipment of 10.2 thousand tons
in 2016, down 45% from the 18.7 thousand tons shipped in the
previous year. Revenue is estimated at US$ 14 million, 40.8-per-
cent smaller compared to the US$ 23.6 million raked in in 2015.
In the first 11months in 2016, egg shipments amounted to 9.799
thousand tons, down 41.7% from the same period the year be-
fore. ABPA officials estimate a 2-percent smaller production of
eggs in 2017, but a 3-percent increase in exports.
