MOTORIZED
2016 was a year in which the sectors of agricultural machinery and road vehicles sold less, but projections for 2017 are promising.
During 2016, 53 thousand units were manufactured, down 4.1% from the 55.3 thousand units produced in the year before, according
to a report published by the National Association of Motorized Vehicles (Anfavea). Sales totaled 42.8 thousand units, down 4.8% from
the 45 thousand units in 2015. Exports amounted to 9.5 thousand units, down 5.7% from the 10.1 thousand units the previous year.
The sector comprises wheeled tractors, harvesters, motorized cultivators, crawler tractors and backhoes.
Anfavea president Antonio Megale, maintains that several factors had an influence upon the lower results in 2016. By virtue of Bra-
zil’s political instability, investors and consumers delayed new projects. Access to credit lines was made difficult by financial institu-
tions, which turned more selective in terms of concessions, as a result of the economic scenario. “Consequently, financed sales fell
considerably in their total numbers”, he explains.
PESTICIDES
Up to mid 2016, Brazil had imported 161,704 tons of pesticides,
up19.2%fromtheamount acquired in theprevious year. Thesenum-
bers were released by the National Union of the Products Industry
for Vegetable Surveillance (Sindiveg), in August 2016. About 80% of
the inputs utilized by the industry are imported. The official balance
of pesticide sales shall be announced in the first quarter in 2017. In
March 2016, the entity published the numbers of the previous year.
According to Sindiveg officials, in the period in 2016, herbi-
cides were imported the most, totaling 111,858 tons. The fun-
gicide class came second in imports that totaled 29,013 tons.
Whilst insecticides dropped significantly, from 29,490 tons in
2015 to 18,809 tons in 2016. The volume of acaracide imports and
other pesticides dropped to 1,512 and 512 tons, respectively, in
the first six months in 2016.
