tion of shipments during the past season,
for fears related to supply, with a smaller
production in the region of Florida, but de-
mand did not react accordingly. On the oth-
er hand, bigger shipments (2%) were sent
to the European Union (EU), the leading
buyer, and the credit goes to the unusually
warm summer and possible stock recovery.
For the new growing season, still at its
early stage, Ibiapaba maintains that there
is potential for the shipments to the Unit-
ed States to get back on their normal track
and, should the EU keep its operations, he
spots chances for the volume to get close to
the previous numbers. Foreign demand, es-
timated, in August 2016 (the crop starts in
July), points to 1.04 million tons, still down
3.7% from the previous season. For the end
of the next growing season, Brazilian stocks
could reach the lowest level on record.
“Without any doubt, it will be a challenging
period for companies to keep their export
rhythm over the entire season”, comments
the official of the sector’s association.
