The main Brazilian states where in-
dustrial tomatoes areproducedareas fol-
lows: Goiás, Minas Gerais and São Paulo,
which account for 98% of the area. The
remaining hectares are cultivated in the
Northeast, especially in Pernambuco.
The history of the activity goes back to
the 1960s, in the municipality of Taguat-
inga,inSãoPaulo.“Backthen,thecitywas
elected the Global Tomato Capital by the
book of records, for its biggest tomato
growing density”, recalls entrepreneur
Antonio Carlos Tadiotti. In the sequence,
tomato crops began to spread to such
other municipalities as Presidente Pru-
dente, Monte Alto and Novo Horizonte,
within the state of São Paulo; Petronina,
inPernambuco,andJuazeiro, inBahia.
