SHIPMENTS
Cornexports totaled29.246million tons andUS$4.567billion in2017,
with respective increases of 33.9 percent and 24.9 percent, compared to
2016,accordingtotheAgroStatSystem,oftheMinistryofAgriculture,Live-
stock and Food Supply (Mapa). In the evaluation of the president of the
Brazilian Association of Corn Growers (Abramilho), Alysson Paolinelli, the
marketwaspositiveforthecerealinJanuary2018and,forthisreason,the
farmerscouldpersistintheirplantings,astheimporterswereeagerforthe

With the confirmation of the biggest
volume harvested in the second crop in
the 2016/17 crop year, prices fetched by
the farmers in some regions remained
below the minimum price set by the fed-
eral government. Within this scenar-
io, the government intervened, with the
purpose to sustain farm gate prices and
favor the delivery of the crop, particularly
of the corn produced in the Center-West.
Conab staged 17 rounds of auctions from
April to September 2017. In the second
half of 2017, dissatisfied with the price
decreases, producers and sellers post-
poned the negotiations of the cereal.
This initiative, along with soaring exports
ensured the prices over the remaining six
months, a period in which the Campinas
Indicator went up 32.5 percent.
